About ReadyAlabama

ReadyAlabama is a state-wide emergency preparedness initiative designed to encourage Alabamians to develop and use an emergency kit.

The Governor’s Office of Volunteer Services, through state and federal funding to administer the campaign.

Serve Alabama would also like to thank the Alabama Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) and the National Weather Service for their support and awareness efforts. ReadyAlabama.gov also partners with Ready.gov, the national emergency preparedness campaign for information and links.

Volunteer and Donations Management

The Governor's Office of Volunteer Services is the state’s lead agency for volunteers and donations before, during, and after disasters. In partnership with the Alabama Emergency Management Agency and Alabama Department of Homeland Security, the Governor's Office of Volunteer Services:

  • Coordinates with Alabama Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) and local and state government emergency management agencies to meet volunteer and donation needs

  • Provides staffing during activation of the State Emergency Operations Center

  • Provides training and presentations on the roles of government and nongovernmental organizations in disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation

  • Provides fiscal and program management for federal and state funded programs, including FEMA funded Disaster Case Management.

  • Provide training for government, non-government, and private sector organizations on disaster volunteer and donations management

  • Mobilize and deploy resources to assist communities responding to and recovering from disaster

  • Serves as the lead agency for the Alabama Emergency Operations Plan, Support Annex I. The purpose of this Annex is to provide a central point for the coordination of information and activities of voluntary agencies and spontaneous unaffiliated volunteers responding in times of disaster and the effective utilization of unsolicited donated goods.
